Battlefield is a first person shooter videogame series and Battlefield 3 is the 12th installment in this undoubtedly successful saga.
Its predecessor, Battlefield 2, was released in 2005.
We still need to wait about 6 months to tell if waiting over 6 years for the sequel was actually worth.
The release is not expected before Fall 2011 and it will cover Microsoft Wondows, PayStation3 and XBox 360.
Best we can do then now is speculating on the official and unofficial information we have so far.
And, why not?, trying to be among the first people owning a copy of Battlefield 3 for free (go to http://freebiesparadise.wordpress.com/ for more information on that sense).
Technically speaking, the most revolutionary and probably most important detail in Battelfiled 3 is the use of ANT, which is a new type of characters animation system allowing more realistic movements, such as characters turning head before body or mounting weapons in (almost) any part of the terrain.
Gameplay-wise speaking, Battlefield 3 will reintroduce some elements that were eliminated from the Bad Company games. Prone position, fighter jets and the 64 players (for PC. max 24 for consoles) will be reintroduced.
Also, the Frostbite 2 engine will be adopted, pushing realism over the top.
A recent issue of the Game Informer described the realism that Frostbite 2 can bring into the game. The engine can show in a very realistic manner how a multiple floors building can collapse in case of an earthquake!
This means that the engine will deliver more sounds, graphics and realism than the predecessors. Also, current engine is that advanced that gravity and wind will affect bullets dynamics.
It's confirmed the availability of Paris, New York and Tehran maps. The game will cover urban streets, open landscapes and downtown areas.
The single player campaign takes place in 2014.
According to a recent leaked ad, a limited edition of Battlefield 3 will come bundled with an expansion (Back to Karkand), which will include heaps of Battlefield 2, such as weapons, vehicles, and multiplayer environments.
The ad also mentioned that the limited edition will bring additional trophies and rewards for players to unlock, which indicates that the limited edition will come on consoles, despite the ad showing the title for PC!
We just need to wait then.
In the meantime, we can be the first to get a copy of Battlefield 3 and do it for free at http://freebiesparadise.wordpress.com/
